The fashionable and colorful city of Hong Kong has a long history. A big change in trends have been made by Hong Kong which reflects itself in different areas such as entertainment, culture, economy and most importantly fashion. The second largest fair in the world is Hong Kong’s winter fashion week and also it occupies the first place in Asia. Fashion trends come and go every year but some fashion succeed to stand the test of time. There are many Hong Kong designers who launch their labels every year but those designers succeed to make their mark in the fashion world with their cloths who are capable of designing cloths according to people’s demand and are very committed to high quality standard and business savviness.

Some Of The Hottest Young Fashion Designers Of Hong Kong:

•    Kay Kwok has been creating the most buzz at this moment. He appeared in London Fashion week within less than 2 years of launching his own label. He has already succeeded to impress New York Times fashion editor Suzy Menkas. Kwok, who is a firm believer in fashion education, says that fashion education has shown  a drastic improvement in Hong Kong in recent years. He believes that he got the confidence and skill to go to the prestigious London College of Fashion and work with Alexander McQueen from his studies at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The themes of futurism and technology influences his latest collection. By combining computer generated prints with asymmetric cuts he is giving the fashion world a new trend. 

•    With clean cut and feminine style Hei Lau has succeeded to get short listed for the international Woolmark Prize. Lau though an Hong Kong inhabitant cherished the dream of becoming the propounder of an international brand.

•    Meiyi Cheung another young fashion designer of Hong Kong who has been nominated for the International Woolmark Prize. Her aesthetic is described by her as gentle and exquisite. She finds it subtly sexy. Not a fan of the fast fashion dominating Hong Kong she believes price and convenience still rule the mindset of Hong Kong customers. According to her great challenges instigate great creativity.

Some Local Designers Gaining Attention:
•    Priscilla I’Anson, PI’A who established a womenswear brand is now a part of growing trend of bloggers. This brand believes in keeping it clean, modern and classy with little emphasis on mix and matching
•    Androgynous designs by Aries Sin’s have succeeded to earn her a cult of followers which includes singer like Candy Lo and actress Miriam Yeung. She has created a distinct Hong Kong style.
•    Central Saint Martins graduates Kay Wong and Jin Wong has set up Daydream Nation which believes in collaboration and also gives a platform to young local designers. It has successfully created it’s own local quirky main line. This company also works in film, visual art, music and dance

There are quite a few fashion designers who are breaking into the scene these days. Hong Kong has a mixture of local and foreigners who are launching their labels and that is why we are getting to enjoy a vast diversity while choosing a style. The city is slowly becoming the shopping hub of Asia. Apart from Zara, Topshop, J.Crew and many other international retail stores that we love, there are also many new, hip brands who should be given a chance.

The label “Made in China” was regarded as unfortunate association with low quality products and mass produced. However, these new innovative, young designers have succeeded to Change this perception to some extent. Chinese shoppers used to focus on Western brands previously but now with the new generation of talented designers they are focusing on their home products. These designers are getting attention both in China as well as internationally.
